The Johns Creek Chorale is dedicated to encouraging people to encounter the joy of singing and nurture the unique gift each person brings to the ensemble

The Johns Creek Chorale has been guided by the vision of its creator, Dr. Nathan Frank, and performed its inaugural concert November 8, 2015. A dream of many in the community of Johns Creek, GA, this new choral ensemble satisfies the growing need for high-level choral musicianship. Thechorale brings together approximately 70men and women from diverse backgrounds to experience the joy of singing and to continue a life-long love for choral music. A board of directors has been elected, by-laws have been written and 501(c)(3) status has been obtained. The chorale is on its way to becoming one of the premier choral groups in the greater Atlanta area.

Dr. Nathan Frank

Founder and Conductor


Dr. Nathan Frank hails from Humble, TX and is a conductor, educator and singer. As a singer of both operatic and the musical theater genres, he has been heralded as a heroic tenor with rock star appeal.”

As a choral conductor, Nathan has conducted groups in Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Washington D.C, Washington State and the Czech Republic.

Before moving to the Atlanta, Nathan has had teaching positions at Southern Methodist University, University of North Texas, Southeastern Oklahoma State University, and Pacific Lutheran University. Before his career in education, Nathan was active in the musical community of Dallas-Ft. Forth Metroplex. In Dallas, he was the Associate Conductor of Schola Cantorum of Ft. Worth and the Director of Music at FUMC Plano.

Most recently, he serves as Director of Worship and Fine Arts at Johns Creek United Methodist Church leading a music ministry of over 250 musicians. He actively serves as a choral clinician and has given numerous workshops on applying Bel Canto vocal techniques to the choral palette. In addition to his work with the Johns Creek Chorale, Nathan is the artistic director of The Choral Pickup, an all professional choral ensemble.



Matthew Van Dyke

Associate Conductor

Matthew Van Dyke is a graduate of the University of Delaware and Westminster Choir College. Matthew is the Musical Director of Choral Activities at Cambridge High School in Milton, GA, where he conducts three choral ensembles and teaches Advanced Placement Music Theory. Under his direction, the Cambridge Choirs have received superior ratings and top prizes in festivals and adjudications. His students are regularly selected for All National and All State Honor Choirs. Before moving to Georgia, he was Director of Choral Activities at Ocean Township High School and Interim Director of Music at Tower Hill First Presbyterian Church.

An active tenor, Matthew sings with local and professional choral ensembles. He regularly performs with the Cecilia Ensemble, the Choral Pickup, and the Johns Creek Chorale.

Matthew lives in Canton, GA with his wife Kristen and their dog Mosby.


Debra Terning

Choral Accompanist


Debra maintains an active schedule collaborating with individuals and ensembles throughout the Atlanta area. Her experiences include accompanying both professional and amateur musicians in private studios, schools, ensembles, churches, and community groups.

A native of Minnesota, she holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Northwestern, St. Paul, and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Iowa.

She previously served as staff accompanist at Bethel University and has traveled twice to Ukraine with Evangelion Chorale as both an accompanist and choral singer. Locally, she performs with the Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, The Choral Pick Up, and The Summer Singers. Debra is delighted to be part of the Johns Creek Chorale!

Allen Baston

Choral Accompanist


Allen Baston, piano, holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Augusta College (Georgia) and was employed for over 23 years as a software developer for AT&T/IBM. He has also served as organist for churches in Augusta and Atlanta for 37 years. He is an active vocal, instrumental and choral accompanist and has served on numerous occasions as music director for community and school musical theater productions.
